Microsoft Word 07 - margin trouble?

Question

When I open up a blank document, the flashing stroke(the one that indicates the position of text) is aligned along the very top of the page. There is apparently no margin along the top and bottom of the page. But when I go to page setup, the margin settings all look ok - top, bottom, left, right are set at 2,54cm. What's going on?

Also, there is no handle along the vertical ruler to adjust the widths of the margin. The whole thing is a strip of white without the greyish areas on the ends to indicate margins.

In MS Office Word upper right corner there is a help icon, click on it  there is some information should be able to help u.

Sounds like you're in Web layout.  Clicking View->Print Layout should solve both problems.

If you're already in Print Layout view, I suspect you've accidentally turned off the inter-page display, which also turns off the headers and footers and the top and bottom margins.  Here's how to fix it:

1. Find the solid black line at the top of the page.  A tooltip saying "Click to show white space" should appear.  

2.     Click it.

That's probably what made the whitespace disappear in the first place.

It sounds to me like you've taken out the "white space".  You can accidentally do this by clicking on the edge of a document - try this, hover your mouse between two documents or at the top edge of your document -- the mouse pointer will change to a "double arrow" type icon.  Then click your mouse.  You'll see that the extra space is gone.  This is a feature used so that you can see more of your document.  To remove it, just do the same thing and it will reverse - bring the white space back.

Or, you can go into options:

1.  Click the Microsoft Office button

2.  Click the Word Options button

3.  Check the box next to "show white space between pages in Print Layout View.

4.  Click OK.
