Mieli water-intake light comming on?

Question

We have a miele dishwasher and the water-intake light is comming on. We have no manuel and don't know what this means. Dishwasher is new to us. We checked the filter and cleaned it. We start the machine and it sounds like it is running but then 3-5 minutes later it stops and the water-intake light comes on. Very little water in bottom of machine under the filter area. Please help.

Second question is says it needs salt. Is that just regular salt?
