I suffer from Migrains about 3-4 times a month. I believe they are triggered by my hormones because of when they happen during the month. I have had a MRI done about 5 years ago and have tryed 8 different RX drugs. Nothing has worked. We havent had health insurence for about 2 and 1/2 years so I havent gone back to the Dr. My insurence is do to kick back in in about two months but the migrains are getting worse. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I can get through the next two months? I just had a baby 9 months ago and I think they are getting bad agian because my hormones are Flucuating back to normal. I have taken Excerdrine Migrain but it really dosent work. Any advice would be great. Oh, and I tryed Magnesium & a B-100 complex but I couldnt sleep (weird) when I was on them.

  1. I really understand about your migraines, I had my older son and my headaches turned in to migraines and especially during  that time of the month. I took Advil migraine and it dulled the pain so I could function. The odd part is after I had my 2 year old my migraines became headaches again . I cannot tell you what a blessing that was. I hope this helped a bit and hopefully your Dr will have a solution when you go to see them. Take care. xx Sugar bug

  2. I get migraines often and they are worse around my menstrual cycle.  Potassium may help you.  It does me.  Eat lots of bananas around the time you get a migraine -- do not wait for the migraine to actually happen, go ahead and eat a banana everyday as a preventative.  And then if you do get a mild migraine, eat more than one a day.  It may not stop them completely, but it may keep them to a bearable level.   Using a warm compress on my forehead and temples and resting in the dark also help me a great deal.

As well, my doctor always advises using Ibuprofen or Aleve for my mild migraines, not Tylenol or Excedrin.  And I have found that Ibuprofen does work better for me.

When your insurance does become effective, try a prescription medication called Frova.  I use it as well as Imitrex.  Imitrex I use for what I call "normal" migraines.  The Frova is for migraines you might get when you have your period.   My doctor recommended it because she knows my migraines are so much more intense during my menstrual cycle -- and boy, Frova really does work for those intense hormone induced migraines. Also, when you are able to get the meds covered by insurance, make sure your doctor prescribes a preventative medication as well as a symptom treating one.  Some doctors recommend Topamax, Amytripyline or similar performing drugs; they're actually antidepressants that have a side effect of helping migraines. My doctor prescribed Depakote for me.  It is actually an anti-seizure medication.  Again, for me, it's being used for it's side effect of helping migraines.  There are many options out there now.  You don't need to suffer and you don't need to continually fill up on pain meds -- preventative meds are a viable option.

    I hope this info helps.

  3. There are actually a couple very effective natural products for migraines (without the drugs that can damage your liver over time)... they are Butterbur and Feverfew. They are simple herbs that helps quite a bit for thousands of our customers and even more world-wide. Butterbur is better for when a migraine hits, and Feverfew is best to prevent the migraine in the first place when you take it on a regular basis.

I also know a few people that get Chiropractic treatments to help with their migraines and find a lot of benefit from them. Good luck!

  4. Ask your doctor for topimax, my mother and aunt both had extreme migraines, and nothing worked except for topimax, i think im pretty sure thats how its spelled, its pronounced tope-eh-max

  6. Besides certain food triggers (which I avoid religiously), I get migrains when I ovulate and again right before I start my period.  I'm 38 and it took me YEARS to figure out this pattern.  Some months I get lower-grade migraines for several days (no real breaks; just one long migraine) and other months I might just get one really big one the day before I start.

I have to take two tylenol and 4 advil at the same time to get a dent in the headache, and if I can, take a Soma or lorazepam with it; that seems to help alot.  This often at least puts a dent in it, or gives me some pain relief until it can work itself out.  The cause itself just has to go away.  I also get virtually instant relief with heat applied to the pain, either by lying on a heating pad or microwaving my herb-filled pack and lying on that.  I have been doing that for many years, though I can't always lie down, I do it whenever I can.  My family will see me lying on the heat for a few minutes at a time throughout the day for some relief.

I don't know why it works or if it will work for you.  I find heat effective 95% of the time, even on headaches that aren't migraines, and usually get relief within 2-3 minutes (sometimes faster, sometimes slower).  Sometimes it lasts for a little bit after I'm off the heat, and sometimes the pain comes right back, so it's transient relief, though the longer I can heat my head, the better and longer lasting relief I get.  If I find I've been on heat for 15 minutes and either have gotten NO relief or very little, or it's worse, then I have a rare headache that will probably respond to ice packs.  I can't remember ever having one that didn't respond to any of those things.  I feel your pain (today, especially!) and hope it helps.

  7. Look up Magnesium in relation to migraine- there is a definite connection in many cases.

  8. For treating symptoms:

Feverfew will help the pain, ginkgo biloba aids circulation and can reduce sensitivity to light and sound, inhaling essential oil of peppermint will help with the nausea.

    At the onset:

Take lecithin (between 3 and 6 1,200 mg capsules ) at the first sign of a migraine- it lessens both length and severity of the headache.

Inhale essential oil of lavender at the beginning of a migraine- this also can lessen pain and duration.

    To prevent occurrences:

Avoid avocados, aged meats, chocolate, MSG, nitrites, canned fish, alcohol and dairy products. And get regular Chiropractic adjustments, they really help.

  9. Try EFT

  10. Oh man that sucks.  Well you could try acupunture.  I know it sounds creepy, but it works wonders.  And if you've tried almost all the drugs you can get over the counter and they aren't working, its worth a try.

Otherwise I'd say your out of luck until you visit your doctor.  My friend acutally has to get meds from the hospital when she has them because they are so bad.  They wont let her have them as a perscription, but when she gets a migrain her husband drives her to the doctors and he checks her out and then gives her the meds.

  11. You might consider acupuncture (it's not as scary as it sounds). Some people have also reported success with aromatherapy, but that probably won't help in extreme cases. I feel your pain and good luck. More info in the source link.

  12. Please, check everything about Xango juice.  You really need it.   I have a friend who suffered migrains very often and since drinking the juice haven´t  had one.  The mangosteen fruit has also multiple preventative and therapeutic applications , so everybody can drink it.

I¨m a mother too and I drink it everyday.  I feel with more energy,  my headaches have stopped,  and haven´t  taken an antibiotic for almost two years.

I really recommend this for you.   If you want more information please check www.cristinadiaz.mymangosteen.com  and choose your country.  Also check  www.mangosteenmd.com for medical information.
