Do you think that a mineral specimen could be identified as one of these three minerals (quartz, calcite, feldspar) on the basis of color alone? Why or why not?

  1. No because each of them range widely in color.  And the hardness on the Moh's scale are all different.

    Quartz, for example, share a lot of the same colors with fluorite and pretty much only the face and the hardness will tell you the difference.
