The organization I volunteer with just took down a puppy mill. There are hundreds of dogs to be taken out and over 60 nursing mothers..so, I volunteered to take a nursing mother because thats a job not many people are willing to do. But now what?? I don't know anything about mini dachshunds OR raising puppies! The organization will help all they can but before I recieve the puppies, can someone give me a really good website on raishing mini dachshund puppies? I would really appreciate it!!

  1. contact your local dachshund rescue for advise

  2. Make a whelping box for her and the pups.  Make sure she gets puppy food, wash her backside if necessary, have papers for potty and weigh the pups every couple of days to make sure they are getting enough milk.  Powdered formula lasts longer than liquid.

Nice of you to remove unwanted pups and mothers from an irresponsible breeder.  I have a new litter that's not even a week old yet.  There are a lot of different ideas on what you should do with pups, but my idea is to watch her carefully and make her lay for the pups.

Dachshunds are no different than raising any other dog.  They should begin eating canned high protein "mash" about 3-4 weeks.  Water it down  and mash thier little heads into it, so they get some on the snout.  They will l**k it off and start eating on thier own sooner or later.

Email me if you need more ideas

  3. I think you shouldn't have volunteered.

for a start you need to know what your doing and owner ship is important the pup(s) need a good start in life.

I think you need to have a re-think and do some serious research fast

    hope i helped.

  4. I don't know any websites that will give you tips on that.

I suggest talking to a vet regarding the care of the nursing mother and any abnormalities that could occur with the pups (things to watch for that could be problematic, etc.).  I'm sure a vet would be more than helpful.

As far as them being mini dachshunds, the things to know about them is that they love to cuddle, love to burrow, and love to chew.  I've owned 3 and those things seem to be the trend with them.
