Question:

Minor Traveling Alone 1st Time. Help?

I'm going to be traveling from San Francisco, CA(SFO) to Newark, NJ(EWR), direct flights only. This is going to be my first flight ever, nonetheless, alone. I'm 15 by the way & I WON'T be using the unaccompanied minor service. I'm more scared of missing my flight/getting there/airport things/etc, than the flight itself. So I have a few questions.

Questions:

1. Do I need parent permission?? They know & let but I don't know if I'll need a note or a form or hopefully nothing at all??

2. I don't think I'll get the earliest flight of the day but maybe around 12-1pm(PST) & arrive at EWR around 9-10pm(EST). Will the airport/airline let me?? I'm going to have someone pick me up no matter what time.

3. Or since I'm NOT going to be an unaccompanied minor, will they treat me like an adult?? As in not asking me questions about who's picking me up, no permission form, etc.

4. Do I need to show my ID?? I have a CA State ID from the DMV.

Thanks in advance for any answers & help!!!

  1. well it sounds fun that you are traveling, but you do need some passport if you are traveling outside of the US.

if you are over 18, you can travel alone.

  2. You don't need parent permission if you're flying within the states. You can take any flight you like, regardless of the time. You will be treated like an adult. You do need your ID! You will need to show it when you check in and also when going through the security checkpoint, which is where they check people and their carry-on luggage for weapons and stuff. You will have to remove your shoes and walk through metal detectors at the checkpoint.Look up online what is not allowed to take with you on the plane. Also get to the airport a couple of hours early if you're worried about missing your flight!

  3. You will have no problem traveling, but be sure to bring your photo ID.  The airport will let you in hours before your flight.  But the most important thing is have fun and be safe.

  4. 1. You or your parents should call the airline and ask if you need any forms but make it very clear you won't be using the unaccompanied minor service.

    2. Same answer as before

    3. If you called the airlines service and asked about the form and you filled it out if you need one. They should treat you like an adult. If they don't, I recommend complaining or mocking them when they ask questions.

    4. I do recommend  bringing your ID because even if you don't need it for the airline, who knows what you might need it for in Newark.
