Misbah-ul-Haq is known to play an anchor role in an innings and with his temperament and skills, it is very hard for the opposing side to get his wicket. Some say that he is the Michael Bevan of the Pakistani side. Based on his performance, he is the current Captain of the Pakistani test side.
Misbah-ul-Haq got a break in the national team way back in 2001 when he played his first test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to play in a three-test-match series. A lot was expected from Misbah-ul-Haq but he failed to deliver during this series. He managed to score only twenty odd runs in this series. This resulted in his exit from the team. He was called back again after the massive reforms in the Pakistani cricket team due to a poor show in the 2003 world cup. This was a second chance for Misbah-ul-Haq to grab the opportunity but he failed to deliver again.
Although he failed again but he didn’t give up and kept on performing well in the domestic circuit. He built up as a reputation of the back bone of the middle order.
He kept on improving his form and started to get noticed by the selectors. His biggest breakthrough came in 2007, when he was selected for the first International twenty20 world cup. This was a surprise for him as well as he was selected over the master batsmen Mohammed Yousuf. Lady luck had smiled on him for the third time and this time Misbah-ul-Haq was ready to grasp the opportunity. He played brilliantly through out the world cup and brought the Pakistani side inches away from winning the final. The world cup ended but at the age of 33, Misbah-ul-Haq career had just taken the lift he always hoped for.
From that time onward he has not looked back and has continuously improved in all three forms of the game.
Misbah-ul-Haq has played a total of 18 test matches till now and has managed to score two centuries and four half centuries. He is very close to reach the milestone of 1000 runs and averages 35.60 in test matches. His highest score is 161 not out. As he plays in the middle order he has not managed to score a century in the one day format of the game. He has played some fine knocks and has scored a little over 1500 hundred runs aided by 9 half centuries in the 56 matches played. His career best is 79 not out. In twenty 20 internationals he has scored 637 runs with a career best of 87 not out.
Misbah-ul-Haq is one of the key members of the Pakistani squad and his form will be a key factor in there 2011 world cup campaign.
