Missing From 2008 Olympic Games ?

All members ( countries ) of the International Olympic "family" attended the Beijing Olympic Games except one, Brunei because the country failed to register any name. Apparently the Brunei National Olympic Council had proposed two athletes to be sent to Beijing but failed to obtain endorsement from the Brunei Culture and Sports Ministry. The ministry claimed that one female swimmer did not meet the competing standard while another male athlete was allegedly injured. The IOC tried to get Brunei to register right up to midnight on the eve of the opening. The Sultan of Brunei attended the opening in Beijing only to be informed very late that his country was not going to be represented. I think i have read somewhere that the Sultan was very unhappy over this and had transferred the minister.

Do you think they should at least send a token 1 athlete to the games ? Would you be embarassed if you were the Sultan ?

  1. I might be embarrassed, and i wonder how they actually failed to apply for the Olympics.

  2. I would be embarassed but after this incident, hopefully i don't think it will happen again in London 2012 . Sultan was one of many dignitaries slated to attend the opening, alongside U.S. President George W. Bush and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Yes if remember correctly I saw him chatting and shaking hand with Senior Bush too before the Opening Ceremony on  TV.
