Moms and Secret Shoppers?

Question

Has anybody tried this? Is it legit? Did you actually make a decent amount of money doing it? And what exactly do you have to do to get paid? I'm a stay-at-home mom and am looking for some extra income, but do not want to put my daughter in day care. So I was just wondering if any other mom's have tried this and had any success? Thanks!

I've done it all the time and It is a lot of fun. You get paid to shop, eat out, and perform other tasks to make sure that companies are good to their customers. I do it a few times a week so I can guarantee the companies that I worked with are legit. Some of the shops pay pretty well too. Some make 20-40 dollars. If you want more information go to:

Hey, I'm a 'member' of a secret shopping site.  It's a legit site, there were no membership fees, you just had to read their materials and pass the tests to be 'certified'.

But... I think the highest paying job I've seen so far is $18.  And there aren't a lot of 'shops' available in my area.

Secret shoppers usually get to keep what they buy during their secret shopping outing. Your local park district or community center may offer a secret shopper program that would let your child enroll in a sport program or swim class for free. Don't expect to pay bills from doing this though. Mostly you will just gain some clothing or toys out of it.

There are legit companies out there, but here's things to remember:

-It's not a "job." Secret shoppers are independent contractors.

-Unless you live in a large metro area, jobs are few and far between.

-Payment varies widely, but the average is about $10.

-You have to take meticulous notes.

-You'll often have to make a purchase. (but you should be reimbursed)

-Payment might take a long time to come, sometimes over 1 month or more.

-A lot of jobs ask that you go alone, so you don't expect to be able to bring your child with you.

I did this early this year because I thought it'd be a nice way to make cash and focus on school. They payments were terrible and with rising gas prices, I only did a couple until I quit.

Bottom line: Look into something else.

I attempted it, but I got a TON of junk mails asking for the same kind of thing. When I went to the site to apply, they keep sending me to page after page of different sites for the "work at home" thing. They just use that as a hook to get your email address, my inbox got overrun, literally! Finally I gave up and blocked all of them. Good Luck, I don't think any of them are real anymore.

you have to be careful with these because alot of them are scams. if they send you a check to cash and want you to wire them back most of they money, don't do it because they will have the money and your bank account will be in the negative. they give you some money to go to certain stores and you get to keep the stuff you buy but the majority of the money they want wired back to them.  just be careful!

I've done the secret shopping thing!  It's kind of cool in that you are an independent contractor and are "under cover".     There are many legit companies...  but as a single MOM, it got too hard for me to do.  Most companies do not allow your children to go with you because they'd be a distraction.  so, it was not worth it to me.  When my son is older I may go back to it.

You definitely do not get rich off of it, but if you do a regular set of "jobs" each week, it could be worth it.  You'd run into problems if you wanted to take your daughter along.
