Question:

Money Tree and check cashing?

I recieved a check from someone for an internet purchase. Their bank isn't in the state I live in, so I can't verify funds prior to cashing. Can I cash a check at a check cashing place such as Money Tree, a personal check? I just dont want to risk a bad check at my bank.

How does it work?

BTW- The person said it was a Bank of America check - it wasn't... so, I clearly wouldn't have agreed to a check from some random bank, you know...

  1. I would have them send you the money by paypal. Personal checks are WAY too risky these days.

  2. Yes you can cash them at a check cashing store.  However they will charge you a percentage of the check.  You may also want to contact the bank the check is on if you think it is counterfeit. I am not sure what the check cashing stores policy on counterfeit or bad checks is, but I would check it out before using it if you are afraid.
