More Bearded Dragon Questions?

I'm well aware of impaction being a big problem, because of accidental ingestion of partical substrates, but what if I feed my beardie in a separate container all the time? I figured if i did this, it would have one essential benefit and that would be, I wouldn't have to go hunting around the viv for any excess crickets that hadn't been eaten. So if I fed my beardie in a seperate container, would it be possible to have sand or what not as substrate?

  1. yes it would be possible to have sand but i dont reccomend it and many other people dont because there still is a small risk of accidental ingestion and sand and stuff is harder to clean... and also you wouldn't have to look for excess crickets if you fed her in a seperate containter, it might be okay but i wouldn't if i was you, i would want them to be as safe as possible, and bearded dragons dont live on sand in the wild, they live on hard packed dry soil,

  2. That is a possibility, but generally moving a beardie from one enclosure to another stresses them out.  I tried it once and my poor boy got so stressed out, he wouldn't eat!!  It's not a real good idea.  It may be an inconvenience, but a healthy beardie is better.  And I've never once had to hunt for leftover crickets..beardies are pretty good at getting rid of each and every one of them!!!
