  1. It has a few pronunciations:

    Ayu, Aru, fu, and ho.

    Alone, it has three pronunciations.

    Ho, Fu, and Bu.

    Ho- counter for steps

    Fu- pawn (chess etc)

Bu- unit of measurements for land (yards, meters, etc)

  2. Step, and it's Ho I think you are thinking

  3. it means step as in walking

the pronounciation is Ho  or  Po depending on how many steps you are counting

for example (these are the basic)

ippo  for  one step, single step

    niho  two steps

    sanpo  three steps

    yonho four steps

    goho  five steps

    roppo  six steps

    nanaho seven steps

    happo eight steps

    kyuho nine steps

    juppo ten steps,

for 20 just add ni(2) to juppo

    21 niju ippo

    22 niju niho

    etc...

    hope this helps

  4. kunyomi:

    * aru-ku [walk, hike]

    * ayu-mu [step, pace]

    onyomi:

    *ho (bo, po) [to walk]

    *bu [rate]

    *fu [pawn in shogi]

The radical of this character is æ¢, tome.  It is number 4a62 of the Japan Industrial Standard, and it is part of the Jōyō kanji taught in second-grade elementary school.

  5. Hi!

It can be pronounced like 'ho' (po) or 'bu' (fu) and also as 'aru -(ku)' and 'ayu -(mu)'

and it means to walk or to step

you can use 一 with it to make 一歩 which is pronounced 'ippo' which is like 'one step (at a time)'

Or (one of many examples) you can use 散 with it to make 散歩 (sanpo) which is 'a stroll'

This kanji æ© is made of æ¢ (tome) which is 'to stop'  on the top and 少 which is 'a little' underneath. So it's like walking (and therefore stopping a little). :)

    Hope It was helpful (=^_^=)
