Morrati serious about signing Messi
Inter Milan’s president, Massimo Moratti claims that he is not joking about signing Lionel Messi. Messi is currently playing at Barcelona, while his contract would see him through 2016.
Morrati first made a claim about signing Messi, when he was giving an interview to a newspaper. After this comment, there was a lot of talk, as it involved the signing of probably the best player in football. However, Morrati claimed that he was joking when
he first made these comments, but now he is serious about signing him. He said that it was a desire of every person to sign some world class player, while the Argentinean magician is the strongest candidate.
Inter Milan’s coach, Rafael Benitez, is relishing a chance to have Messi in his team. In his statement, he showed his approval of such a step, as Messi would definitely be a great addition to any squad. Benitez also showed his enthusiasm by saying that he
was ready to discuss any probabilities with Barcelona for Messi’s signing.
Inter Milan is looking forward to improve their squad in winter transfer window, especially after the strengthening of their archrivals, AC Milan. The main person on their list was Kaka from Real Madrid, who has also played for AC Milan. However, Benitez
said that Kaka would not be an option for him because of the fact that many players are already in Inter, who can play in same position. Benitez said that Wesley Sneijder is a better player than Kaka, so he would not want to hire the Brazilian.
As Moratti has claimed that the statement about signing Lionel Messi was a joke in the beginning, people are taking things seriously. On a very serious note, no one should have taken such a blunt remark as serious, because signing Messi right now really
seems like a joke, maybe a bad one. Messi has almost six years left on his contract, which means that price tag would be higher, in case Barcelona agrees to sell their star player. On the other hand, if Inter tries to buy Messi forcefully, then they would
have to pay around €250 million, the amount in the buy-out clause of Messi’s contract.
These are the possibilities only if Barcelona decides to sell Lionel Messi, which does not seem to be the case. Messi is their star player, who has ascended to glory from their youth camps. Right now, he is playing the best football of his career, while
he is surpassing all other great players of his age. Apart from all that, he has grown into a prolific goal-scorer for his team, which makes him the most valuable player on the planet right now. Keeping in mind the new UEFA regulations, signing Lionel Messi
would be a financial suicide by Moratti.
Apart from all these things, Lionel Messi himself would never want to leave Barcelona. He has developed a unique playing style, which is workable only in Barcelona. Inter Milan follows a totally different playing style, which might not be suitable for Messi.
Also, the youngster has developed an affiliation with his club, which would be another hurdle if someone would want to sign him for their team. So, for his career sake and for his own sake, Messi would stay at Barcelona.
If all these things are pretty obvious, then why did Moratti make such a claim that he would sign Messi? Maybe, Moratti was giving a statement of intent, that he would turn things around for Inter. Moratti might have meant that Inter would sign some great
players, who would help the club to win some trophies. This also seems like a logical explanation of Moratti’s claim, which cannot be taken in its literal sense.
Right now, Inter faces tough challenge in Italian Serie A, but they have a squad to retain their Serie A title. Probably, Inter does not need any signing right now, but it was the right time to show some real intent of winning. Therefore, Moratti did a great
job, as the message must have been conveyed to other teams in Serie A, as well as in Europe.
