  1. Pennyroyal (an herb related to mint) is supposed to make a good natural bug repellent (just plant it wherever you don't want the bugs to be).  I haven't tried it yet, though (I just ordered some seeds for it from sandmountainherbs. com).  But I hope it works.  I just know it's supposed to be a natural bug repellent.  I don't know how effective it is.

You could also try citronella-scented candles or sprays (they use oil from the citronella plant instead of chemicals to repel mosquitos).

  2. Well masquitoes don't like the smell of merigolds or catnip so like sprinkle that around or get a bat house cause bats eat like twice there weight in bugs (masquitoes) and don't eat to many banannas because that attracks masquitoes... all natural choices so you don't end up killing you grass or you dog for that matter....

  3. place some dry ice away from the area & away from pets the skeeters are attracted to the dry ice. the skeeter control uses this system down here in the keys. great when you are having a BBQ or party. but this will only last as long as the ice does

  4. One thing you should do is get rid of any standing water around your house.  If you have plants outside with saucers you need to check them and dump the extra water out every few days.  Some mosquitoes don't need any more than a puddle of water to breed in.  I use skin-so-soft on myself because I can't stand the smell of bug repellent and it works just as well. I don't know what you can use on your dog but penny royal is poisonous to dogs.  I have heard if you plant marigolds and Tansy that they are natural bug repellents.  My dog never bothered with these two. I wouldn't put them on the dog but you can grow them in the yard.  He luckily has a lot of hair and the mosquitoes are probably going to go after you first.

  5. You should msot definitly NOT use pennyroyal if you have a dog. Even a small eaten amount can harm it's liver.

I can't help you with the mosquitoes, though, sorry. I have the same problem, they're everywhere xD
