So i found a 2001 Yamaha YZF for only $900.

If i bought that bike, could i use it for trail riding, even if it is a motocross bike?

I dont think ill be doing any racing, just goofing around with it, but my dad says that i might want to get a trailbike instead of a racing bike, but im having trouble finding a good trail bike for under $1000.

I really cant afford not to buy the YZF for only $900, but i am just wondering, will i be able to have fun trail riding with it?

(I heard they are really hard to ride on tight, bendy trails)

  1. A good enough ridder can ride any bike on the trail problem being are you a good enough ridder?  Ok so i have a 05 yz250f the four stroke version of the bike your looking at.  It is harder to ride on the trails.  You need to wind up the engine more to get the power to climb and the low end power wont be there.  It will be harder than either a four stroke or even a two stroke trail bike but there are some pros.  After a some practice you might like the higher power band.  I like ridding my bike over my dads trail bike.  The two stroke is gonna be lighter too than most older trail bikes.  Also you have the choice to ride motocross too.  Its a pretty fun and trail bikes have a hard time on the track.  Most people are getting rid of there two strokes and going to the four stroke motocross bike so a plus is you can pick up a two stroke for pretty cheap.  If your just getting into birt bikes go for the yz150 just know its gonna be some work before you become a great ridder.  Know too you will be riding the clutch a little more in the tight trails but they make motocross clutches pertty tough.
