  1. It depends on your hull and total weight.  If you have a deep-v and want to to boat with another person, get a 25 hp.

  2. i would go with the 9.9 just because i frequently have less problems with those motors

  3. I have a 14' aluminum flat bottom jon-boat that originally came with a 15hp. That motor gave up and I got a good deal on a 25hp. My boat runs an honest 30 mph with two people in it. The difference from 15 to 25 was HUGE! I am a ten year outboard tech and I feel good with the 25. Just because you have 25 hp doesn't mean you have to run wide open. I would go with the fifteen because it won't have to work as hard to plane off.

  4. your not gonna tell much from a 9.9 to a 15..for the money i would stay with a 9.9.

  5. most 14' aluminum boats are rated for a 9.9 hp these days because of the additional weight of the 4-stroke engine. if you can find a used 15 2-stroke ( no one reputable makes a 15 2-stroke anymore ) then that should be safe... i would just be careful giving it throttle as the front end may get squirrly on you....

  6. I would go for the 15 simply because I would want to go a little faster than a 9.9 would push it.

  7. Where you live may have influence - some provinces / states require that you licence any boat with a motor 10hp or more.  There's also lakes that are restricted to motors under 10hp.

That's why they make 9.9 hp motors.

  8. Depends how fast you want to go haha. I think a 9.9 would be enough, but if you want to move quickly then go for the 15

  9. It depends on the type of boat. On a displacement hull a 15 will just drink more gas without giving you much more speed than a 9.9. On a planing hull it might be a different kettle of fish.
