Well I think my baffles have gone because my muffler is really loud!. I was thinking of taking it off and opening it up and putting loft insulation into it, but I'm unsure do you think I should just buy a new Universal Muffler for 25.00 pounds?

  1. Don't  try to put loft insulation in as it will either block up straight away or disintegrate and then you won't be able to use your bike.

  2. back in the day we would use steal wool, it would work for a while but over time burn out. I pretty sure you can buy packing material check some auto stores.

  3. Your labour rate must be cheap to do all that for under £25 ....if you want to repack the silencer use Rock wool not fibre glass,if it's the baffles these are metal plates or drilled tubes to slow the gas flow and  pressures but can have a major effect on performance if not done correctly go with a new can!

  4. I love the word 'muffler'. In England we call them silencers.

Muffler just sounds like a pet name for a woman's private parts.

  5. Just don't bother- unless the reduction in back pressure is reducing performance it is better loud.

    The louder the better.

  6. I too have a loud muff, but that's a different story. If your bike is a two stroke stick with the origional design as the engine needs the correct tuned volume to extract the burnt gasses from the cylinder. The same goes for four stroke engines but to a lesser extent. Opening out the silencer will change the tuned capacity and reduce power. In other words, buy a reasonable replacement and it will pay for itself in greater engine efficiency.

  7. 25 quid? Buy a new one!

  8. putting  loft insulation won't that catch on fire. Go and buy a new one

  9. buy a new 1, its illegal  not to & you will get a fine if you get busted by the cops
