Mouse trap not going off

Question

I know this trap works..i've snapped myself lots of times. but everyday, the peanut butter has been completely licked clean off the trap but it hasnt gone off. Mom wants to switch to poision, which i dont think is a good idea. is this one clever mouse..should i give in and switch to poision?

dont use a mouse trap... set up a cage put food in it and when he gose in it youll see so you can humanly let it go in the wild ...plus you wont have to clean up mouse guts every where

2 things can be done: buy a new trap or get a cat

Try to tie cheese on the trap. Floss works really good. That way the little critter will have to tug on it.   If you poison it and it dies some where you can't reach  it's really going to stink bad.

I like to glue a peanut to the trap.  that way the mouse can't take it...

I use the old, standard wooden trap with the yellow plastic bait holder.  After catching several mice, they seem to get less responsive.  For the few cents, try a new trap.  They are usually very sensitive.  Please avoid the poison.  There is a remote possibility that something other than a mouse is eating the bait.  Maybe ants or such over  a few days time could do it.

Well you should have read the instructions before trowing them out were the mouse could find them.

Buy new tipe of trap and read instuctions so you don't catch yourself then burn them so the mouse does not know how to oporate the new trap. Good luck!

The mouse probabaly is to light to set it off.

I would just switch to poison.

Or just mix bleach in the peanut butter that might work.

working with poison is tricky try cheese instead the mouse has to put more weighton it therefore setting it off

Mice can learn how to trick traps.  Switching traps occasionally is a must.  Try the Mouse cube.  And to make it really work well put it under something low or put a book on top of it (so the mouse can't shake his/her way out).  Poisons can work, but you risk it not getting out of the house and then hidding in the walls or other places.  

In general just switch the type of traps every 3 months.  Although now that I have figured out the key to the cube it is working great year after year.

EDIT: Risk with poisons for your cat.  Not that he/she will eat the poison necessarily, but if the mouse dies and your cat then gets some of it the poison can move.

get a more humane trap.. get the trap that closes when the mouse goes inside to get the food.. that way you don't have to see it in the trap.. good luck

poison is never a good idea, especially if you have pets or kids. try using an electric one, there is no escaping and you will catch hundreds although you have to empty-alot

I think the mouse is smarter than you, for you to get snapped. You need to put some cheese on it. The peanut butter being licked off isn't triggering the sensor since its weight triggered. When the little mouse goes to take the cheese off.....BAM..... oh and no offense about the mouse being smarter.

You have a verry smart mouse. You can set up a comcorder & video tape it to see exactly what the mouse is doing.
