I'm soon to me relocated to Houston from Los Angeles. I currently live in Westwood/Beverly Hills area. I like walking distance to cool places, young crowd and nice living. What`s a good neighborhood in houston that is similar to Westwood in Los Angeles. Thanks in advance

  1. The Montrose area is probably one of the most walkable urban places in the city.  There are funky little shops and restaurants there and you won't get that throughout most of Houston.  The next most walkable place to live is probably the Museum District.  There are lots of parks and places to see there.  The only thing close to Westwood here in Houston is going to be in zip code 77019 and probably the Upper Kirby District.  If you search for places there you might find some great places to live.  Check out craigslist or backpage.com for neat apartments to live in.  If you like apartment complexes then of course, check out apartments.com or something.  Either way on the map of Houston, imo, anything above Westheimer but below Memorial Pkwy, from Kirby in the west, to Louisiana Street in the East Houston does not get any more original than that.  Good luck and you're moving here right as the hot weather is about to subside!  Kudos!

  2. The Museum District would be a good fit for you.  It's a little pricey, but a real nice, trendy place to live.  The Heights is still walkable.  Nice mixed crowd there.  How these places compare to Westwood---well, I'm not quite sure having never lived in LA.

  3. Honestly, you will not find anything comprable here to the Westwood/Beverly Hills area. It's just different.

"Walking" areas here are few and far between, kind of like parts of LA.

People in West U/Rice Village can walk to many cute shops & good restaurants but most do not. The Heights is walkable but there are not too many places to walk to. Same with the Museum District but for the museums. MidTown is becoming more and more walkable as is Downtown. They both have new restaurants & shops opening all of the time.

Otherwise, in Houston as in LA, you will get stares if you walk. Everything is just too far apart.

  4. I would choose Midtown which has little shops you can walk to, or Montrose for nightlife, and even River Oaks which is more like Westwood/Beverly Hills.
