Question:

Moving out of state?

I live in Chicago but I'm planning on moving in with my Aunt in California while going to college there. My question is,what is the best and cheapest way to move my things from here to there? No furniture,or anything too heavy.

I've thought about packing it all up and Fed-ex-ing it across the country, but quite frankly that idea leaves me cold.

Another option I thought of was trying to fit everything into suitcases and fly with it that way.But since recently they started charging for baggage on flights all could see was the impending price tag.I can't drive my own car over because of resent engine trouble.

Short of having her drive here, pick me and my belongings up,and driving back,I am out of ideas.

How do people normally do this?

Any help is deeply appreciated =]

  1. Have a garage sale and what you don't sell, pack up in your car.

  2. really the best two options are take and airplane and bring the luggage with you on the airplane and even though it's and extra $15 per bag it's NOOOOO comparision to just shipping the stuff there on it's own by airplane.

or you can take this option, even though it's more timely it's a good bit cheaper if you took a gray hound bus there. i know, like i said it's more timely.

  3. rent a moving truck and drive it!

  4. I lived in Utah for 5 years and when I decided to move to Iowa I mailed all of my things through the post office to my new address and I brung just 2 suitcases with me on the Amtrak train. If you trust the post office I think it's the best and cheapest way if you want to mail all of your things. All of my packages arrived within 3 days. Every box that I filled with my things all arrived safely to me. Because I didn't have much it only cost me $100 to have all the boxes mailed to my new address. I used Priority mail boxes at the post office. It was simple.
