http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes, believes that poor start cost his side the match against Leeds United in the Capital One Cup third round fixture at Elland Road.
The Merseyside outfit went into the game brimming with confidence, following their emphatic 3-0 triumph over Swansea City last week.
However, they granted an early initiative to the Championship side, conceding a goal in the fourth minute.
Rudolph Austin then doubled the lead for the home team in the 70th minute. Even though http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sylvain-Distin-c34430 halved the deficit in the closing stages, Leeds managed to hold on to their defences to land a knock-out blow at David Moyes’ unit.
The Scott introduced scores of changes for the game, having rested http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nikica-Jelavic-c27906 came on as late substitutes.
However, the Goodison Park boss refused to accept the suggestion that fielding second-choice players had cost his team the match. Instead, he cited their poor start as the reason behind their demise, and feels that they never recovered after conceding an
early goal.
“We started terribly, gave them the initiative and lost the game in the opening 20 minutes due to the way we started,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“We gave away a really poor first goal and left ourselves trying to get back into the game. We were not very good in the first half, but we got better in the second, but not as good as we've been playing.”
Moyes also defended his decision of the changes that he introduced for the game, claiming that he was inclined towards testing the quality and depth of his squad in the less significant domestic cup.
“These boys are in the squad and have to be able to show they can come in and play. If you don't use them, what's the point in having them? The players want to play and be involved,” he added.
With their League Cup campaign now being put to an end, the Toffees will now switch their focus towards their upcoming league game against Southampton at the weekend.
