Question:

Muay Thai promoting/ranking?

A local muay thai gym restricts certain classes (competitor's muay thai, thai clinch, etc.) to students who have a rank of blue arm-band or higher. Anyone know what is the criteria for assessing someone as blue or higher? What techniques do you have to master to be promoted to blue?

  1. Muay Thai is like boxing there are no ranks.  Although it doesn't take long to figure out where someone is skillwise when they spar.

  2. Completely arbitrary, as there is NO ranking system in muay thai.

Your best bet would be to ask the instructor of that gym.

  3. Some Muay Thai schools have a level system that start at 0 and you generally have to get to 3 before you can spar.  Level 4 and above is fighter level and finally there is a Muay Thai certification program for instructors.  This website might be helpful: www.fairtex.com
