Question:

Mushrooms?

I want to go shroom hunting, i was gonna drive out of the city to some cow fields and I don't know how to identify them...i know they grow on cow **** but i dont wanna get the wrong kind and poison myself=P... and when is a good time to go look? i live in San Antonio, right now everything is really dry and cold...and knowing fungi, i doubt now is the time to look...any advice?

I go mushroom picking every year most of our shrooms are late summer or fall time.usually after a good rain certain ones need a good ground frost.GET a MUSHROOM FIELD BOOK for your area or find someone WHO knows mushrooms and go with them.We have some real deadly ones in northern Ontario Canada{my 6 late wives can attest to that HA HA }Be really careful once you get the hang of the good ones its fun and really tasty they are natures delicacy.PS very rarely [almost never] found on fresh cow or horse p**p in the fields or pastures most grow around rotten vegetation or rotted tree stumps.
