When did the Torah get corrupted or altered? Was it before the Births of Yahya and Isa or after their births?

Thank You In Advance.

  1. The Torah was definitely corrupted before the coming of Jesus, both a prophet and a messenger, since he was sent with the new scripture, the Gospel (Injeel).

As for Yahya, a prophet, I would have to say it wasn't corrupt at his time to the point the message was completely disorted, or it was in the process of being corrupted. A prophet was sent every time people were led astray to bring them back to what the scripture/book preaches.

"O John, you shall uphold the scripture, strongly. We endowed him with wisdom, even in his youth." - 19:12

John wasn't a messenger, only a prophet since he didn't come down with a new scripture or book. Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad were both prophets and messengers since they came down with new scriptures/books with the true message. Meaning every time one book was corrupt, another was sent.

"He it is Who sends the Messenger for guidance, with the true religion." - 9:33 , 48:28, and 61:9

As for the Torah, I believe it was changed for a couple of reasons, but the only thing that pops in mind is the prophesies of the coming prophet.

"There is among them a section who distort the Book with their tongues: (As they read) you would think it is a part of the Book, but it is no part of the Book; and they say, "That is from Allah," but it is not from Allah. It is they who tell a lie against Allah, and (well) they know it!" - 3:78

"Of the Jews there are those who displace words from their (right) places, and say: "We hear and we disobey"; and "Hear what is not Heard"; and "Ra'ina"; with a twist of their tongues and a slander to Faith. If only they had said: "We hear and we obey"; and "Do hear"; and "Do look at us"; it would have been better for them, and more proper; but God hath cursed them for their Unbelief; and but few of them will believe." - 4:46

" Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:"This is from God," to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby." - 2.79

So in short, and don't take my word for it, but this is my understanding, John did not bring a new scripture nor was he a messenger, but a prophet who preached from the Torah, thus meaning it was in it's original (or slightly altered) state. Jesus was sent with a new scripture, the Gospel since the Torah was altered and the message was corrupted, and he was to call people to the original message that had been distorted. Hope this answered your question.

  2. Well, I don't think you can get direct and solid answer for this question. Quran and hadith does not mention any date. So, we can only make a guess.

Edit: Not necessarily. May be only a small portion fo Torah has been changed at that time. Even now we don't say that whole Torah is wrong. Muslim still givesproof of Prophet Mohammed PBUH, from Torah.

  3. It got corrupted before yahya and isa. That is why yahya and isa were sent after moses

  5. Well the OT was cannonized before the births of Hazrat Isa (as) and Yahya (as).  I don't recall exactly how long before their births it was done.  However, we do know that it was already corrupted by then for a few reasons.

The biggest of which is what the Torah attributes to the Prophets.  That some were drunkards, fornicators, adulterers, etc.  It is completely against logic and Allahs sunnah that He would raise a person to the level of a Porphet who would do these types of things.

So in short, it was corrupted before their births.

    EDIT:

@Asker - I see your point but consider what Isa (as) himself said, "I come not to change the law or the prophets, but to fulfill."  Him having direct communion with God allowed him to understand what had been corrupted and what had not.  Hence he was able to bring about the pristine teaching and discard the rust.  Same goes for Hazrat Yahya(as).

love for all, hatred for none

  6. I think it so old an event that exactly it cannot be  specified but definitely those parts of Torah which were prophecies or glad tidings for the future were safe as retold by prophet Ezrah.

  7. It is completely against logic to say that Allah would protect the Quran from being corrupted and let the first message he sent, (the Torah) be corrupted!

Therefore, God's Word,(The Torah), cannot be corrupted!
