Question:

Muslims--what does this mean? ?

Someone posted this on one of my previous questions:

It is not permissible to pray for good for a kaafir, because he does not deserve it. If he does something good, you can thank him by saying “Thank you”, because of the hadeeth: “Whoever does not give thanks to the people does not give thanks to Allaah” (a saheeh hadeeth narrated by Imaam Ahmad, 2/258). It is preferable to use the words of thanks in his language, i.e., not in Arabic. It is sufficient to express your appreciation for his good deed, but we should also note that it is not permissible to use the services of a kaafir or to accept his help, because this involves putting up with his reminders of his favour. In the reports there is the du’aa’, “O Allaah, do not give the follower of innovation any reason to remind me of his favours or cause my heart to like him.”

Does that mean that we are NOT allowed to pray for non-Muslim? That seems pretty harsh!

  1. You can pray for them to be guided, sure. But you can't pray for them after they died for mercy. That was even forbidden for the mother of the Prophet Muhammad (p b b u h).

  2. You are right it is harsh!  And that should set alarm bells ringing because such harshness is far from the true spirit of Islam.

First of all, who does this guy think he is that he can say who is a 'kafir' and who is not?  Only God knows what is in the heart of a human being, and what his or her destiny is in relation to their faith.  It is ultimate arrogance to take that decision upon oneself and declare someone else a 'kafir'.

If you want to pray for a non Muslim, the best thing is to pray for their guidance to Islam, as that is the greatest blessing.

Here is a little tip:  when you see Muslims writing and they use a lot of extra unnecesary vowels like in the quote it says 'Allaah', 'kaafir', 'hadeeth', etc, be wary, as that is the hallmark of a group of Muslims who have a tendency towards harshness and dare I say it, extremism so watch out for that and take what they are saying with that in mind.

  3. sister,

can u make blind person see?

can u make a handicap walk??

    Guidance is from Allah,

    when he rejects it,

    who r we to pray??

he already rejected the signs of Allah, who r we to make him see the signs??

Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle said, 'If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel, saying, 'Allah loves so and so, O Gabriel love him' So Gabriel would love him and then would make an announcement in the Heavens: 'Allah has loved so and-so therefore you should love him also.' So all the dwellers of the Heavens would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth.'   (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, ONENESS, UNIQUENESS OF ALLAH (TAWHEED), Volume 9, Book 93, Number 577)"

"Allah forbids you not, With regard to those who Fight you not for (your) Faith Nor drive you out Of your homes, From dealing kindly and justly With them: For Allah loveth Those who are just.  (The Noble Quran, 60:8)"

Narrated Jarir bin 'Abdullah:  "Allah's Apostle said, 'Allah will not be merciful to those who are not merciful to mankind.'  (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, ONENESS, UNIQUENESS OF ALLAH (TAWHEED), Volume 9, Book 93, Number 473)"

  4. Darksyde,

If you come to my mosque and listen to the prayers you'll see for yourself, curses in some form or another are sent to those who are not muslim.

For muslims it's good health and guidence are prayed for.

  5. It means for people who openly say their is no God, and oppress the Muslims.

  6. Ignore that person!!!

no one decides who is Kaffir, cuz no one knows, besides allah what is in that persons heart.

A good person is a good person, no matter what their religion is.

    salam.

EDIT: anyways, you are supposed to prey, ask allah to guide them, prey allah yihdeehom.

    and what the 1qfactor said.

  7. Pray that Allah guides them the right path....

I come from a christian/muslim background and I always pray that my christian brethren be guided properly..

Allah is the ultimate judge.. only he knows whats in their hearts and souls...

  8. This is not true. Indeed people should be more careful when posting answers. We are allowed to make Du'aa for non-believers to be guided to the straight path, as I did for family members that we non-believers, and All praise due to Allah, they became Muslim. As for the deceased non-believers, we have been forbidden to make du'aa for them, because it is too late. But I believe I heard from  a shiekh that we are allowed just that Allah ease his punishment a little.

So don't listen to harsh and weird people like that, they usually do not understand especially if they have no kaafir family.

So, we are allowed tp pray for the non-believers , espcially the family members who NEED the supplication of their muslim family members.

  9. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.  The Prophet (sa) prayed for the disbelievers so intensly that he would shake and drip with sweat.

Think about the way he prayed for the people of Taif even after they tried to kill him?  Even when the Angel offered to destroy the town the Prophet (sa) stopped the angel and rather prayed for the town.

Islam teaches love for all mankind.  We are encouraged for those who have not yet recognized Islam.

love for all, hatred for none

  10. we doesn't have to pray for non-Muslim because they do not believe of the existence of Allah...

  11. Why would you want to pray for them? did they ask you to pray for them?

Most of them do not want nothing to do with your or with your Islam for that matter. So why bother?

If it is your family who are non muslims then you can pray for their guidance that is as far as I know.
