who will win if both at their prime?

thomas "marine" muster was another great lefty clay court player, he's clay court run 1995-96: 111-5 and 1996: 65-2 record was impressive. i remember at the time he was seemingly untouchable on clay

i don't know if i'd give Nadal the "All time best clay court player" in my book, i sure wish to see muster vs.nadal on clay...

  1. I think Borg was pretty amazing on clay from the old games you see, he was very talented. I don't remember Muster, though, I have heard of him.

Naturally Rafa is the best in today's game. Only one man beat him, and that was Roger.

  2. I think Muster could beat Nadal on clay, but if they had to play just one time for all the marbles, with both players in their prime, I would have to give it to Nadal, because of his superior defensive skills.

  3. It would still be Nadal on clay....

  4. Nadal hands-down.  He hits much harder, and has much more speed.

Muster did get hit my a car, and started his awesome clay-court career after recovering from that accident.  Perhaps he would have been better if he didn't get run over.  I guess he stuck to the clay, because it's the easiest surface on the body, especially when the doctors told him he'd never walk again before that.

But I really do think Nadal the best clay-court player of all time.  The guy just gets to crazy shots and makes crazy shots off cray shots.... like Federer on other surfaces.

  5. Great question.  My son asked me on Sunday if Nadal was the greatest clay court player ever.  I came up with a few names that might have challenged him on clay...... Borg, Kuerten, and...........Muster.  I remember Muster well.  Unfortunately we'll never know who would have won a battle between the two lefties.  Both were relentless pounders of the ball.  Both went for everything and never tired.  However, even though I thought Muster was an amazing player, I have to give the slight edge to Nadal.  Rafa is simply stronger.  He's 6'1" vs. 5'11".  185lbs vs. 165lbs (at Muster's prime).  Though Muster was briefly #1 in the world, I think Rafa's time will come.  He's just too strong to hold off.  His record on clay is simply ridiculous.  That takes nothing away from Muster, who in my eyes was one of the 4 best dirt dogs of all time.

  6. Rafa Nadal

  7. rafael nadal!

  8. Nadal has a better all round court player. Muster is basically baseliner.

Nadal also has amazing court coverage.
