Question:

My Air Conditioner Broke?

I currently moved back in with my in-laws for vacation from the military. I was wondering if anyone knows what I am not checking. The downstairs A/C does not work at all. The upstairs works fine. As far as I know they have two different circuit breakers. I checked both of those and they both turned up the same. I took the controller from the upstairs and that works fine, replaced the downstairs one with the upstairs one and it still did not power on at all. Then took the one from downstairs upstairs and it worked fine. I checked the cables coming in and they all seemed to be fine. I went outside and checked the wires coming from the house and those are fine. I can't figure out what is wrong is all the connections seem fine. I do not now what brand of A/C units we have but I know we are using the AMPAM controllers and we live in Murrieta, CA. Thanks for anyone who gives help.

  1. you need to check the low voltage going to your thermostat if theres not 24 volts your transformer may be burnt

  2. sounds like you have two different ac units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, and the downstairs is broke, you will need a ac repairman to take a look at it,it could be minor or a major repair job, good luck.

  3. In the fan section of the units some have a pc board at least in newer models. These boards have a fuse built into the board. These fuses look like small auto fuses. If there is a fuse it will not run if it is blown.Just a thought..

  4. You say that the downstairs does not work at all? This includes the indoor blower ? If so, you need to start with the breaker to the furnace/air handler; The fuse in the service disconnect (SSU) to the furnace/air handler; The door switch to the blower compartment on the furnace/ air handler; Then the fuse on the circuit board. If this doesn't help, post new symptoms, and we'll see if we can help. If your blower does work, but the outdoor does not, re-post new info.
