My Blackberry camera zoom stops working?

I have a new BlackBerry Curve 8330. Traditionally when I use the camera, and I scroll the rollerball up, the zoom will increase from 1x to 3x to 5x. But sometimes, it won't zoom at all. It seems to be completely random, but it wouldn't do it for a few weeks straight at one point. I can't figure out anything I'm doing differently to make it not work. Any ideas?

Yep, this is typical.  Do a hard reset, that is, taking battery out while the phone is fully powered.  Wait about a min, reinsert, then let phone go through its cycle.  Zoom is back.
