I don't know how old he is, but I have had him for 4 months. I just moved a little over a month ago, and since then he has not eaten a thing. I have tried everything! He was pretty active until about 2 weeks ago. His skin is starting to get loose, and I am very concerned. What can I do to get him better. I don't know of any vets in my area that take snakes. Any suggestions??

  1. Snakes do not shed only 2 times per year. They shed every 6-8 weeks on average, but it varies with each snake. Also, they do not stop eating before they shed. Sometimes they will not eat becuase they get frusrated when the cannot see through thier blued eyes, which in turn creates stress; so they don't eat. I would say try feeding him live. Maybe they movement of the prey will stimulate him a little. Make sure he's getting plenty of water. He may be sick, but it's most likely stress. Reptiles are very sensitive animals, and are very easy to stress out. Moving could create stress, and stress can cause them to not eat. I hope he is alright, and I hope I helped.

  2. He really needs to eat. Read the wikipedia link below; he should be eating at least 2x a month. Find a vet that will see him!

  3. You just need to be patient and try to offer him food at least once a week. Keep in mind that snakes can go through long periods of time without eating. Don't be so quick to call him "sick"

  4. I can't tell you for sure because all snakes are different but it's sounds like he might shed soon. My fiance has a California king who will eat anytime, even if he is shedding. But we have a bull snake that will quit eating a few weeks before he sheds. It might be the food. Are you feeding him frozen or live? You might try something different than what you have been.

  5. I think he's going to be just fine, snakes shed their skins twice a year and stop eating for up to two weeks before to make the process easier.
