  1. Without having more information, in safe mode you should update and reinstall all your drivers, update all your programs that you have run recently.  Also check your firewall history to see if there have been any intrusions or things that run automatically when you didn't tell it to.

  2. This is a Hard-Ware problem not a Software one.

To solve I would say you will either:

    1. Need to Re-Format your HD (meaning loosing all data currently on the HD)

    2. Get a new HD (meaning loosing all data on your current HD)

So try to pop in your XP or Vista Disc and see if you can re-format if not then just get a new Hard-Drive, as this has happened to me before and for myself I had to get a new hard drive for my desktop, and it worked fine after that.

But before you go any further you might want to open up your desktop (assuming this is one) and look on the motherboard for a small cell battery. Looks like the one that comes in hearing aids and goes in laser pens. It is flat and as big as a quarter / nickel. Take that out and place it back in after 5 seconds. If needed replace that, though it should last for at least 3 - 5 years.

Try that and if that does not work then go onto the HD parts!

    Hope it helped.

  3. sounds like a hard ware problem to me.  Its hard to say what going on since its giving you so little info.  Did you do anything funky before this started?  (install new drivers, add more memory, change bios settings etc)
