I Hate My Eyes. Because I Wear Glasses.

I know what your thinking, your thinking ohh she wants us to feel sorry for her because she wears glasses and gets bullied and gets called a geek blah blah..

no.

my eyes get worse steadily, and i want contact lenses. i asked my opticion, he said i couldnt have them because they would increase the speed of how they get worse or somthing.

does anybody know an operation or treatment that would make my eyes better? im 12, and i have trouble with long distance things.

  1. Choosing a different frame can make so much difference, see your opiticians, they can help you with choosing a frame.

    I am a +5.50 & I wear contact lenses.

If you are not happy with your optician, you can always see another one for a second opinion on wearing contact lenses.

There is corrective eye surgery,(laser). Which is not available for someone of your age, I think you have to be over the age of 18 or 21, and this is not suited for everyone.

    Good luck

I hope that I have been some help.

  2. Its difficult to believe that your doctor told you that, though it might be because of your age. With great care and maintence, you'll do just fine with contacts.

There are certain things to keep in mind while wearing contacts: you have to keep them clean, don't wear them more than the reccomended time(generally 5 hours, they need oxygen), and dailies are better for your eye comfort . Depending on your vision (toric, astigmatism, etc), you might want to inquire about hard lenses. They're generally better for your eyes (but uncomfortable in the beginning).

Don't worry too much about your eyes. Lasik might be an option for you in the future (you have to reach your 20s, when your vision is a little more stable).

But always take care of them.. It's important to have routine check ups (atleast once a year).

  3. You have genetically long eyes, you have gotten them from one of your parents and there is NOTHING you can do about it.  Later when you are older you can make informed decisions about eye surgery, but for now, you have a ride the genetic train.

I wish for you the peace that is needed to accept yourself.  Unfortunately, it is only found as we age.

  4. You're going to have to stick with the glasses. I'd get some cuter frames that you feel comfortable in. You're a little young for contacts so the optician is probably hesitant. It's up to the actual doctor if you can wear them though. Maybe he can get you some for school only and you can take them off at the end of the day so you don't hurt your eyes. Your eyes are going to get worse for a few more years though...you can only do surgery when your eyes stop worsening.

  5. Well i say you talk to the optician and ask if you meet the requirements for laser surgery. If you don't, don't worry a solution will come in the future and soon enough you'll be pain free buddy! And you won't have to wear glasses!

  6. See an Ophthalmologist. Any "optician" who tells you that contacts will make you eyes get worse..is an IDIOT. See a real doctor (Ophthalmologist) and ask them what you options are.

  7. even if there was it would probably be very expensive. the only quick and easy solution right now for you would be for you to go to the optical store in your local mall and ask someone there to set you up with a very appropriate set of frames. you sound like youre still in school middle or high so nothing geeky. something the kids would even comment and say, "hey, nice glasses." make sure you tell the person you want something "cool".

  8. Your eyes will continue to change as the rest of your body changes and grows. So right now, there is no point having surgery of any kind (even if you legally could, which you can't - there is a reason) because by the time you've healed and could enjoy the new, corrected vision ... your eyes will have changed again.

However. I have not a clue why you were told contacts would make your vision worse. I'm thinking perhaps the optician couldn't be bothered with trusting you to look after them so tried to fob you off, which is wrong. Though your age does come into play here, but for the same reason as above: your eyes will change a lot in the next few years, and it'll be more expensive to get new contacts every few months than to get new glasses.

Meanwhile, you can try to get yourself some nice frames and look forward to when your eyes stop changing. They'll slow down and then your vision will stay pretty steady for a good few years. Then contacts could be a good idea.

  9. I have never heard of contacts makikng your eyes worse, Usually if you are near sighted like this your eyes continue to get worse as you grow and stabilize once you stop growing. Refractive surgery is not for kids. You have to be at least 18 in the US and they still might not do it until your eyes are stable if you have had a lot of changes in the last two years. Most people that get the surgery are in their early 20's. So, for now you might be stuck. You might want to get another opinion about getting contacts though, a lot of kids your age get them. They are more expensive and you still have to have glasses for back ups, so talk to your folks and see what they think. You might want to go to a different costor and get another opinon.
