Hi all,

could you tell me why you think my rabbit past away after only 6 weeks of life in which 4 of those were in my house, during those four days, my family and I showed her nothing but utmost affection and we fed her everything the pet store told us to. Yesterday, after noticing that she did not really like her pellets, we went to the pet store and got a few samples of food to let her sample, and when we got home, it seamed that she enjoyed the samples we got. Then, we all went upstairs to go to bed and when my mom woke up at 6, she found the rabbit laying down and then found out that it had past away. Also, over the past four days, I noticed a gurgling sound from her belly, I checked it out online and it said that she may have Gastrointestinal Stasis so I scheduled an appointment with the vet and the soonest one was on Wednesday, tomorrow.

  1. Your rabbit was very young, it couldve died from MANY things. The samples, wouldn't have caused much of a problem. The gurgling prolly wasnt gi stasis..  Did this bunny possibly have a pot belly.. or kinda look fat. Im expecting it to be something called Coccidiosis.. young rabbits get it, and it's lethal, while adult rabbits have no problem with it. The symptoms are like a sloshing sound in the stomache, pot belly, diaherrea (sp), and loss of appetite. The stress of being in a new home, made the rabbit susceptible to many things, and it's immune system was weakened. It wasn't your fault, so don't worry about it.

  2. I'm so sorry.

Try not to blame yourself, I'm sure you did nothing wrong.

Unfortunately these things happen... often without warning.

Rabbits are prone to various infections and it is possible she had Gastrointestinal Stasis, however it is something you will never know. Allow yourself to grieve over her death but try not to get caught up in the 'what ifs'.

    Rest in peace little rabbit.

  3. My Condolences. Sorry, i don't know anything about rabbits.

  4. I'm guessing it died of natural cause, like blood clot, or heart failure.  RIP li'l rabbit, eh doc?

  5. how old was the rabbit???? it could of died from a stomach problem which mine died of the other day :( it could of also been the change of food, if it was used to the other food you should of gradually mixed it in so that it doesn't upset the stomach or have a digestion blockage. I'm sorry about your rabbit but i hoped this helped!

  6. Yeah, probably the change of diet. When you're sampling make sure you mix the two foods together so it slowly adjusts. Rabbits under the age of 6 months old have weak stomaches.
