My speakers were working but then my internet stopped working and now i am running on a wireless connection. Could that have anything to do with why my speakers aren't working?

They are plugged in to the computer but they are not working and they don't turn on. There is a little wire about 1/2 a foot long and i don't know were it goes. They speaker plug is in the right plug thing i think. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I try to always start with the most basic piece and work backwards.  So, first, make sure your speakers have power...the green (or whatever color) light turns on when you turn on your speakers.  If not, check your power connection at the speaker as well as the power outlet.  Make sure they are plugged in all the way on each end and in the correct jack.  If the power is plugged in correctly, and they don't turn on, your speakers, the outlet, or the power plug has gone bad.

Make sure your speakers are plugged into each other.  Most speaker sets have a master speaker.  It is the one the power plug goes into, it has the power/volume button, and also has a cable running from it to the other speaker.  Often this is hardwired, but sometimes it is a separate cable/plug set, make sure they are plugged in, and plugged in to the correct place.

If they have power, make sure they are working, remove the 1/8" stereo plug from the back of the computer and plug them into your iPod, MP3 player, CD player, anything with a headset jack.  If they are working...continue...If not, there is a problem with the audio cable/input.

Look at the back of your computer.  There are 3 or 4 1/8" jacks all in a row.  One is for speakers, another is for your mic, another is for line in, and another could be a line out.  Make sure you are plugged into the speaker jack.

Make sure all connections are plugged in solidly.  You should have sound.  If not, then it is a software/setup issue.

Go to 'Start', then 'Control Panel' then 'Sounds and Audio Devices' .  Click the 'Volume' tab and make sure under Device Volume, the Mute box is not checked.  Make sure the 'Place Volume Icon in the Taskbar' IS checked.  Then click 'Advanced' in the Device Volume section.  You will see a number of volume sliders.  They might not all be the same level, they don't have to be.  But make sure they aren't marked as 'Mute' or that the slider is not all the way down.  Adjust as necessary and close or 'OK' the windows.

If they still aren't working, i don't know what to say...lol.  But your internet connection has no basis for whether your speakers function or not.  If your internet isn't working due to a power spike, that same spike may have toasted your speakers too, otherwise there is no connection between the two.

    Good luck.

  2. You sure you got the power pack plugged in correctly? Or maybe they need batteries. They should be connected to the green coloured connector if there is one.
