  1. Your suppose to start them on baby cereal, rice cereal... Maybe he just dosent like the taste because they have really sesitive taste buds.  Water it down with boiled water

  2. Do you give him his milk first? Try giving him his solids first so he will be more hungry and may be less likely to refuse. Or if you already give solids first, try the other way around. Perhaps he is too hungry and needs to have his milk first to take the edge off his hunger. It's normal for babies to take a while getting used to solids. Some babies demolish it and some take their time. He'll soon get used to it.

  3. The great thing about starting solids at this point is that you still have room for error and practice. The reason is because formula or breast milk will remain his main source of nutrition until he is 12 months old.

He needs to keep trying the same thing for a few days before you give up on it. Since you should only introduce one new food every 3-5 days(for allergy reasons), this is a good way to slowly get him started on his veggies, fruits, etc.

So, just try something tomorrow and if he doesn't like it, offer it again later in the day. If he still won't take more than a couple bites after a couple days, just move on to something else. I'm sure that in a couple months he will have quite a variety in his diet. And don't worry because his formula or breast milk is giving him everything he needs nutritionally.

  4. My 6 month old was hard at first to feed solids to as well. Don't panic, it's trial and error untl you and baby find out what he likes and dosen't. Here's some advice based on what a nurse said and my own experience:

Try to feed in the morning after breastmilk/formula, say 1 1/2 hours after when he's not hungry, its about sampling right now, not the food.

Start with cereal, very loose mixed with bm/ formula.

make it a pleasant experience, if he is upset, stop. Try again later or the next day. You will continue to have difficuties if he has a negative association to food.

His main food source is still bm/ formula, so don't expect to load him up on solid food. Still feed bm/ formula on demand. 27 inches, 15 lbs does not sound too thin to me! You should only worry if youd doctor is- and fallow thier advice.

When introducing something new, you should start again, with it very watered down and just a small bit mixed with something that he has liked before. For example oatmeal with banana, or sweet potato with apple.

Make your own baby food. www.wholesomebabyfood.com. If you can boil water you can make baby food. I only end up needing to make a batch about every other week. Dosen't take long, don't really need expensive equipment- I bought a cheap kidco food mill for $10 and the only other thing is ice cube trays and a potato masher. Cheaper than baby food, and tastes like real food without a bunch of chemicals and fillers.

baby's stomach is very tiny- start with a small bit, but don't expect he will take alot, mine will take at most 2 tablespoons of cereal and one ice cube sized serving of fruit twice per day.

start with feeding once per day at breakfast, then after a few weeks add a supper feeding.

Let you baby lead the feeding, for example through trial and error I found mine likes to feed himself and hated it when I put the spoon in his mouth. I just hold the spoon with the food if front of him and he grabs it and puts it in his mouth. He also likes to knaw on the spoon for a while. So I wait until he's done knawing and then feed him the next spoonfull- takes 45 min to eat but that's ok! You will find out what 'quirks' you baby has as well over time.

I got really, really frustrated as well, i though he would never eat, but I just continued making it a routine and kept it pleasant, then oted through trial and error what worked and what didn't. Both of you are new at this so give it time! My heart goed out to you and GL!

  5. Don't worry babies will take solids when they are ready for it.  My son was introduced to solids around six months but just recently(at 10 months) starting actually eating it and enjoying it.  My son hated baby food, so I gave him yobaby yogurts, and very ripe fruit cut up very small on the tip of my finger.  Try the gerber sweet potato puffs.  That really sparked my little guys curiosity and they melt away in their mouth.  Sometimes the spoon can freak them out.  Imagine two new things at once.  Don't worry he will eat and then you won't be able to stop him!!

  6. Don't worry - he'll take it in time.  At that age they still get all their nourishment from milk.  Solids are just to learn how to eat.  Try banana.  They love it.  Stick to one food until he takes it before moving on.  If after about 3 weeks, he doesn't take it, then you can try another food.  Fruit and veg is best for now.
