We have a cockoteal and we were letting him out of his cage.We just made french fries and we had cold oil on the stove. We washed it off of his tail (the only place that was on him) and we put him in a towel. Will he be ok?

  1. The best thing to was him with is the plain blue color Dawn dishwashing dish soap. Warm water , rinse well. make sure he is in no drafts when done. Very important to get all out as the feathers will not insulate the bird properly and also may affect flying. I would also not let him out until you cover these type of things as it could have been much worse. you may have to was him a few times. Good luck. :)

  2. Maybe you could make a really weak dish soap solution and wash off all you can, then rinse him. When he calms down he will preen and clean his tail feathers and it would be good to get all the oil off him that you can. Poor birdie! My birds were always doing stupid stuff!
