Whenever I eat something cold, like ice cream and it touches the bottom of my bottom teeth, it hurts like h**l. Why? How can I resolve this?

  1. Yep, you teeth become more sensitive with age sometimes because your gum starts to recede.  Brushing too hard will also cause this problem.

Sensitive tooth pain occurs when the dentin is exposed. Dentin is full of microscopic holes that connect to the nerve endings.  Pain can come and go.

Start brushing with a "sensitive toothpaste.  Personally, I prefer Sensodyme.  Sensitive toothpaste contains potassium nitrate that "plugs" up the microscopic holes.  You should start to feel better within a week of use.  Though the box says to not use it for more than 4 weeks, my dentist told me it is okay to use continuously since I see my dentist regularly.  But you should check with your dentist on this.

Or if you can start rinsing your mouth with a salt and water mixture once or twice a day.  Potassium nitrate is found in salt.
