Question:

My breast milk taste sour...???

My daughter is 13 months old and hasn't had breast milk for about 6 days. It was tapered off pretty good so my b***s aren't engorged, but a little full. Today I was going to see if she would still take it to get a tiny bit of pressure off. She took it for a few seconds, then she was done. She was very excited when she first saw it so I was wondering if it may taste bad. Sure enough it was a bit sour. Is this normal? If I pump a couple of times would it be good again? I am just curious. I really don't plan to bf any longer. Thanks.

  1. Did you exercise before you tasted it?  Sometimes the lactic acid produced by exercise can make it taste funky and even sour.

  2. The food you eat will affect the taste of the milk but it could also be because you breast are starting to stop producing milk so the milk isn't as good.  If I were you, since the milk is starting to stop, I would stop breast feeding and stop stimulating the breast.  If you don't let anything really touch them, that tells your body that you are done breast feeding, milk will stop producing and that milk that has already been produced will dry up.

  3. wtf?

  4. sometimes the food you eat can effect the taste. My sister ate spicy food then fed her baby. After feeding, the baby had bad breath.

  5. That is so NASTY

  6. Your bm is sour because your lil one has not been refreshing the milk by nursing. If you used a breast pump a few times it would take the sour milk out and your body would produce fresh milk. Hope this helps!! Good Luck
