My calves!!!?

I have been running on the treadmill for 30 min. a day for a month or so and it was fine but now that I am in hockey conditioning camp we sprint a lot faster but it is for 25 min. I can do the run but towards the end my calves are killing me so much that I can barely run. They feel like they r on fire and it is only my 3rd day of camp. I am in great shape and am not fat. Is it because it is too hard for me or should I get better running shoes or what???

  1. ice, ice baths, cold showers, massage before you run, ice after.

  2. youre doing something you arent used to ...just have to work through it. it should go away in a week or so. massage them  to keep them loose, you can use your fist

  3. it could be your shoes, but when i did track i would run 2 and 1 half miles a day, and got something called shinsplents. it's were the musle on your shin moves away form your tibula. it hurts really badly when you run on a hard surface, but is common. what you can do to help this is to ice your shins, and tape them. it takes a long time for this to heal, but it will eventually go away. around 2-3 weeks.

    Good Luck!!!

    :-P

  4. You have been running, but not at the speed of camp.

You are using the muscles in a different way.

Ice your legs after training,  try stretching and massage.

Warm up well and cool down.

    Drink plenty of water.

Once you are conditioned to this type and speed of running you will be okay.
