My cat's too skinny?

Question

My cat is eating her perscription cat food so she doesn't puke, but last night I noticed she is so much skinnier than before. Her vet said she lost about 26lbs. in the past month!!!

I can see her rib-cage!!!

What's wrong with her?

It could be worms. Do some research online and check for other symptoms. I know that one of the symptoms of tapeworms is weight loss so google it and i'm sure you can find more information!

How did a cat have 26 lbs to lose?  That was a huge cat.  Cats are usuall 10-15 lbs.  If the cat is still eating and the appetite is normal, yet she is still rapidly losing weight the vet should run test.  If she's at a healthy weight now because she was grossly overweight, that is another story.  She may be having problems absorbing nutrients or have diabetes or something.  You should ask the vet if there is cause for concern.

I'm really concerned to hear that a cat can even weigh enough to lose 26lbs!

Have your vet run and internal parasite screen. This will require fresh f***s collected and needs to be tested within three days. Hopefully you wont have trouble obtaining the sample since you're cat sounds very sick.

I recommend you just bring the sample in and the Vet can send it to the lab ASAP.

Please take her to the vet immediately to have other tests run as well :(

A cat who supposedly lost 26lbs in the matter of a month is a dead cat. Maybe it was a typo but I can bet my bottom dollar that she did not loose that grossly amount of weight. Either way, you need to address this concern with your vet and I am sure he/she will be able to tell you what is the best course of action.

it's not possible for a cat to lose 26lbs in 1 month....but if you can see ribs amd spine, time to go back to the vet for a recheck.  What;s the prescription food for?

sounds fabulous, i wish i could lose 26 lbs a month!
