My cat keeps attacting the dog?

we have a tabby cat and a little maltese dog..you couldn't exactly say they were friends.. for the past week everytime she walkes past him he hits her or graps her in bear hug digging his claws into her..he want let go you have to pull him off her... the dog is now scared of him she wont walk past him and after he has hurt her she goes and hids and shivers for the rest of the night.... why is he being so mean she never attacks him

If you thought somethng was going to kill and eat you, you'd want to scare it away as well.
