  1. there a are a few things that cause computers to run slow. it could be your hardware. slow processor, little ram, etc. sometimes it is software related. registry errors, disk fragmentation, viruses and other computer malware cause problems. there are a few things you can do to help regain speed with windows 98 and up.

    All the following are FREE

    Run Disk Cleanup - Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup

    Run Disk Defragmenter - Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Deframenter

Remove Programs from Startup - Start>Run>msconfig

--Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the boxes of programs unnecessary to run at startup

Install and Run ONE Antivirus Program

    --AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition http://www.grisoft.com/

    *--Avast Anti-Virus Home Edition http://www.avast.com/

    --Avira Anti-Virus http://www.free-av.com/

    Install and Run Anti-Spyware

    *--Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/

    *--Spyware Terminator http://www.spywareterminator.com/

    --AdAware http://www.lavasoft.com/

Install and Run System Optimization tool

    *--Ccleaner (Strongly Recommended) http://www.ccleaner.com/

    *--Advanced WindowsCare http://www.iobit.com/

    --Glary Utilities http://www.glaryutilities.com/

  2. Speed of the computer actually depends on a few things. CPU, ram, and video card.

The cpu doesn't matter too much, but it does add a little bit of speed the higher the gigahertz.

Ram, the higher the better of course. But make sure you don't go over the limit on your motherboard.

Video card is a big one! If you have a video card with a gpu, it not only frees up the main ram, but the CPU also. So, the better the video card the faster the computer goes.

  3. sometimes, adding more memory could possibly solve this problem (don't even care of ur CPU's speed).

In fact, your computer running slow due to there are so many tasks that need to be ran at a same time, and each task "cost" a few KB of your RAM, but, before u add more RAMs, please, make sure that u know the type of your RAM- DDR or DDRII. DDR's slots are different from DDRII's slots (they're not the same!!!) so when u put a DDR/DDRII RAM into a DDRII/ DDR's slot, it won't fit. So, take care.
