  1. Just let her speak the way she does and she will learn on her own.  You ARE her mom and should not be ashamed of who  your baby is. (YOU)  Put on some music and teach her that way like disco.  Welcome!

  2. It is great that she has the opportunity to speak two languages.

It is important that adults in her environment speak to her (mostly) using their strongest language, and to not 'code switch' e.g. switch between language in one sentence, this is because the different grammatical structures can make it really confusing for her to learn.

Children who are learning two languages may present with a delay in one or both of the languages, due to the complexity of learning two languages.  This delay usually disappears by the time they start school and they are left with the benefit of speaking two languages.

Your daughter should be fine learning two languages as long as she has strong language models in both.

  3. most schools have bi lingual teachers, not to worry

  4. wow

  5. No it'll be fine. You can start teaching her English, she has plenty of time before being thrust into the school system. Besides, you'd be surprised how quickly little kids learn new languages. A lot of my cousins moved to the US when they were elementary school aged and the language issue was never really much of one. They picked up English very quickly, but still retained their mother language because it gets spoken at home. LOTS of kids in the US are bilingual for this reason, I think your baby will be fine.

  6. My son is 23 months old and he speaks German and English. He will speak English to his dad (who does not speak German) and speak German to me.

When we all re together he will speak mostly English, but always calls his Dad" Papa.".

Toddler learn a 2nd language faster then adults and since you are in the USA now  your child will hear more English and pick up on the new language.

  7. It's easier for babies and toddlers to learn a second language than for adults.  As long as you start teaching her English as well, it's not a problem that she has another language as her first language.
