  1. you'll have to ask a professional singing coach.

but all i know is, you have to make sure that as you breathe whilst singing, your shoulders shouldn;t be moving up and down, only your stomach should be going in and out.

you have to fill you lungs before singing a sentance and make you evenly distribute your breath across the notes.

but as ive said, ask a professional :)

  2. Have you learned to breathe with your diaphragm all the time?  If you haven't, you can "exercise" that new skill by lying on your back on the floor, putting a hand over your diaphragm and breathing - making sure your abdomen is rising and falling and not your chest/shoulders.

Once you've made a habit of breathing from your diaphragm all the time, make a point to notice how you're breathing when you sing.  It's really just a matter of practicing  - just doing it every time - because it's actually easy once you get the hang of it.  Deliberately choose to control your volume and duration.  Using your diaphragm will enable you to sing through 4-8 measures easily without taking a breath.  You can practice this anytime, anywhere by filling your lungs, purse your lips (you don't have to do this but it provides a tangible way to guage the pressure you're putting on the exhale), and control the breath out for a steady, consistent count.  Start with 8 beats and expand as you are able.

With consistent practice you will find you can manipulate volume, "airiness," etc. with precision.  Diaphragm control and placement are the biggest components to singing well (besides being able to carry a tune, of course).  With the combination of the two you will be able to extend your low and high range AND control them so those highs don't become screechy and the lows don't get lost in your chest.

  3. Find a song that starts deep and mellow, then moves to the high notes seamlessly like "Unchained Melody".A brisk walk when the air is clear will build up your lung capacity. When you can hold the high notes almost indefinitally, then you should audition. If the voice cracks or you become short of breath, rest a few minutes and try again. It helps to have a partner for harmony,or a vocal coach.
