Question:

My first sport bike?

I am 5' and I weigh 110lbs.

So yes I know I have to get anything lowered.

Now I want a sports bike but Im torn between 3.

GSX-R600 or a Ninja 250 and CBR600.

the 250 just seems so tiny! and they are hard to find and I hate the way the older models look.

the GSX is beautiful and I can get it cheap from a couple years ago. I have known girls who have went with the GSX and they are very happy.

I dont know very much about the CBR someone just told me to look in on it.

anyways any advice would be VERY helpful.

p.s. I took the class.

  1. Shauna, do you have any riding experience? If no or only a little you are biting off more than you can chew. Get the 250 and spend a few months riding it in all situations and all weather. Then move up. Lowering a bike is risky. These things will go 155 mph plus. That is no situation for your buddys to experiment with your frame and shocks etc. You may hollow out the seat for 1/2 inch and wear boots for 3/4 inch but fooling with the suspension is risky. Have fun, welcome to the hobby.

  2. Dont matter, you wont be around that long.

Have one of your friends post when you bite it.

  3. It's really good to see a girl riding the best bet is to go to bike shops around your town and try out whatever you think you will fit and like this way you will get an idea of where to start. Try out the CBR 250, or the GSX and the ninja the newer models will be similar in ride position to the older ones but you will notice a power difference and maybe some difference in the riding and brakes but over all your going to get the feel for the type of bike you feel most comfortable with

    Goodluck

    And remember

RIDE to SURVIVE and SURVIVE to RIDE

    Take opportunities don't take risks

    ENJOY YOUR RIDING

  4. Ok My choice would be the new kawasaki 250R its cheap and its real fun to drive, that was my first motorcycle.

Hopefuly you took the MSF Courses that should lower your insurance.

  5. congrats when u get it.....

very exciting.... i just got my first one two weeks ago

    08 night rod special

  6. Go with the Suzuki.  The ninja 250 is hard to find and you're right, the older ones are ugly.  Besides the bigger 600 will last longer provided you take care of it like maintenance and not crashing.  Just be careful and have fun out there.

    Good luck.

  7. ur tiny, so dont complain about how small a ninja is, even big guys ride a 250cc

  8. Great, so you took the class.  You got the basics, but it DOES NOT MAKE YOU A GOOD RIDER!!!!!!

That will take time and practice, not a shiny certificate and a figure-8 on a tiny cruiser.

Try a USED bike first, like a Ninja 500 or Suzuki GS500; something that won't be as unforgiving to newbie mistakes.

The girl next door has a Ninja 500 and she loves it.  That she looks smokin' hot on it is another thing, though...

  9. Ignore EVERYBODY who says get the 250 or claims you'll kill yourself on a Gixxer.

Any used 600CC bike from the "big 4" will suit you just fine. The oly difference is the styling so it's a matter of what feels and looks the best to you. You have to go sit on a few and see what is more comfy in the riding position.

Take you time and get lots of practice. I understand you passed the class but that doesn't make you a pro. Don't show off and practice practice practice!

You'll be fine. If you get that 250R, you'll have fun for the first 2 months, then wish you got a bigger bike. Height and weight aren't really a factor, it's about skill and technique.
