  1. It's problaby sick, but just to give you some help, I was given a goldfish that was kept by himself in a 10 gallon tank and I took good care of him with regular tank maintenance. He would swim to the top by himself, but would then turn upside down and swim for a while and then right himself and float normally. I eventually gave him to someone else where he became a pond fish, but sadly he was snatched by a hawk while performing this trick.

  2. swimbladder disorder  it will flows back up to the top since there is too much air in the tummy of fantail.  probably gulping too much air looking for food or the pellets got much air.  Let the fish diet for two days and observe.  The feed sinking pellets or peas.

  3. if its in a bowl there is most likely ammonia in that water. its organs are shutting down due to ammonia poisioning. No benificial bacteria can live in a bowl with no filter andthat bacteria is what protects your fish from ammonia. test the water or change it twice a day for 2 weeks but it might be too late.

  4. What do you mean by "He's been doing that for 4 hours"?

If you mean going to the bottom then going up repeatedly, then bring him to a vet immediately. Or to any neighbor who has/had a fish. Because that really isn't normal. However, you can probably save him.

If he's been belly up for 4 hours, then I think fishy is gone. I'm sorry. I mean, he might be choking, but I've never seen someone choke for 4 hours straight.

  5. Goldfish have very short life spans when kept in a bowl.

Goldfish require at the very least a 10 gallon. (the ideal is 20 gal per goldie and an additional 10 gal for each additional fish- for example 3 goldies need 40 gallons)

Your fish is being poisoned by his own wastes. read this article:

  6. my fish did that kinda it was sleepin at the top and wen i tappped on the glass it would swim around for a sec then float to the top for a second wen i woke up it was dead

  7. this same thing happened to my fish that i had for two years and it then slowely died. im sorry

  8. did you recently feed him? not to scare you if you did but my fish did that after it ate it's food and it choked....so sorry!

  9. feed your fantail some food, if it doesnt eat then your fish might die if not you're a luck S.O.B

  10. Try rubbing his stomach. It's sounds stupid, but try it.

He could be choking or have indigestion or something. Rub gently though.

  11. Sounds like a swimbladder problem. Look in your freezer for some frozen peas. Defrost them in some warm water or the microwave. Peel the skins off and mash it up. Then try feeding it to him. Also you may want to do a water change. You will probably want to look into getting a nice 20-30 gallon tank with a filter for him. He will be a lot happier with all that room to swim and will live a lot longer. But make sure to cycle your tank for at least 4 weeks to allow for the build-up of beneficial bacteria.
