Question:

My friend has cancer?

I've been friends with this girl since I was about 13. We met through another friend. We were pretty good friends and then she moved to a different city. We remained pretty good friends. She has been through some really terrible stuff in her life. We drifted away and then were close again and drifted away again.

Well now we live in the same city (she lives out of town though, about an hour away). We are both 18.

She text my boyfriend today (we were all friends together before they both moved cities, long story) saying she has Ovarian cancer and she's going in for an operation tomorrow to get them removed.

I feel so terrible because she doesn't deserve this. I really valued our friendship and I missed her and I want to be there for her, but I don't want her to think I'm just doing this because she has cancer. I said if she needs anything let me know. What else can I do?

I'm really upset about this. She's not getting any further treatment if it spreads (her decision)

  1. Send her a card, flowers, anything nice. Tell her you wish you could be there for her and hope she'll understand

  2. I think if you can you should go and visit her after the operation when she is in recovery or maybe you could send some flowers and a card or something just to let her know you care.

It is never nice when a friend is suffering and the best thing to do is be supportive.

Most young people, if the cancer is spotted eary will recover so dont assume the worst straight away.

Hope your friend's operation goes well.

  3. I'm sorry, I know it's tough but life ain't fair and it won't be, for any of us. I had a friend that wow we had good times and last year he passed away, he was snowboarding and he flipped over and hit his head in a rock, and a helipcopter picked him up and he died. It was a hard moment.. But tell your friend to have hope, and believe in miracles, cause they do exist and happen to anyone. Keep your friend cheered up and tell her to stay strong and believe for the good.

    Hope, my friend, hope!

  4. Heya

I went through the exact same thing when i was in the last year of school (16) however me and the girl were best friends and from the same school. She had cancer of the throat which spread to around her heart and into her bones.

The thing you dont want to do is make a massive fuss. You want to make sure she knows your there for her and if she needs anything just to ask however you dont want to keep talking to the girl bout cancer all the time as im sure she doesnt want to be thinking about it 24/7. Just talk to her like you would a normal person. Dont send her flowers/choclates etc because your companionship means more to her at the moment and im sure shes been given enough flowers and chocs to last her a life line. Give her a call and just explain to her that youve heard about the cancer and ask her if shes ok. Then say that you havnt seen her in ages and would love to go for a visit sometime. Its a hard position to be in but you have to stay strong for your friend. Dont think negativly or act negative around her (like crying) as she needs to stay positive in times like these. Keep strong and be supportive.

  5. im sorry : ( send her some flowers or something be by her side ..

  6. My aunt went through the same thing, so after her surgessry, we went and vistited her. Just try to be a good friend, and stick with her during this hard time. And if there is one, you could do a walk for ovarian cancer in her honor.

  7. i would send her flowers and a card. it will make you feel better, and you won't feel like you're pressuring her into friendship because she has cancer. in the card, just say if she needs anyone to talk to or anything, to call you.

  8. im rele sorry try to send her some flowers or something and be there as much as possible not to bring u down but it could spread quick so i would just sugest to be with her tell her how much u care for her and mabey she will get better the power of hope! : ]

  9. wow thats sad... be supportive and let her know that your there for her and that youll help her get through this.alot of people get sick without any warnings and it gets to the point wear yanno and your saying how could this be not to them(your loved 1 or in this case your friend)but the only thing you can do right now is pray for her aand be by her side..

send her flowers a card something to make her get her mind off of the cancer...

i'll pray for you and your friend!!

  10. after her operation, either send or bring her flowers balloons card etc.. and then when shes feeling a bit better, go and see her as much as u can, tell her how much u care bout her and love her, and what she means to u. tell u'll always b there for her. and then hug her her and say that everythings going to be ok.

  11. I am so sorry. I know how you feel. My best friend since 2nd grade was diagnosed with cancer when we were in 3rd grade. We thought she wasnt going to make it for a while, but fortunately she pulled through. The best thing you can do for her right now is to be with her. Spend a lot of time with her and tell her how much you care for her. I hope your friend is as lucky as mine was. Your friend will be in my prayers.

  12. Go see her!!

I think she would believe that your going because you care not just because of the cancer, but that is a good reason to go anyway.

Do some stuff that will take her mind off if for a little while.

Try and think of some really personal, nice things to take/get her. Things that mean a lot and will remind her of the nicer times.

I can't even beggin to put into words how majorly messed up and unfair cancer is, it would never be enough so I'm not going to, other than stating that fact.
