Question:

My grandmother is driving me insane

I'm staying at the house her and my aunt share, and my grandma doesn't want to let me do anything. I just told her that I was thinking about going outside to look at the stars, she flipped out on me.

Shes always done this c**p to me. When I was twelve or thirteen she would freak out if I walked around town by myself for a while during the day time. Its gotten to the point where I cant even tell a story or a joke without her screaming at me.

My aunt on the other hand, has no problem with me going out, or having fun. She can't even stand my grandma or her rules.

I don't want to go home, I cant stand it there. I live in the middle of nowhere, and I really don't get along with my father.

I'm seventeen, how can I get me grandma to lighten up or something?

  1. Haha Ignore the old Hag. It's not her home so  she should be lucky someone wants to put up with her hogwash besides you're old enough to make your own decisions. You're parents should make the rules not her.

  2. If she's old enough to be a grandma then she's not going to change her ways for you, there are people who have been tough all their lives and she sounds like one of them.  Just ignore her.  Pretend that you can't hear when she's talking to you about something you don't wanna hear.  Just yell "WHAT? WHAT? I CAN'T HERE YOU!!" and walk out the door.  Haha just a little immature but she sounds like a serious drag.

  3. move out

  4. Ask her why she is so worried about you, she probably just really cares about you wayy too much... Once you understand what she's saying, convince her that you're completely safe and make sure she knows that you love and respect her!! LOL she only is doing it because she loves you XD

I know what you mean though, sometimes the people who love you can be real pains!

  5. this is what you tell her,

"better me looking at whats in the sky than whats in a boys pants, hmm?"

i said that to my grandma and she pretty much shut her trap.

    =]

'til i turned older then got a boyfriend, so - the gig is over now.

  6. I would get a job and start saving so that you can move out on your own. With how old your grandmother is she's already set in her ways and there's not a thing you can do to change that. Maybe you and your aunt could even work something out and get a place together. Especially is she can't stand her either.

Good Luck I know what it's like to have psycho grandparents.

  7. It sounds like staying is your best bet. I know that she could be super annoying mine is too. But just stick it out, your almost 18 so It wont be that long.

  8. well your really asking two questions there. the first one takes me back to 1976 I was a young college graduate and I was looking to make it in the professional flatulator market. So I booked a show at the local opera theatre and farted the national anthem of my country and the audience went wild! So there I was on my way to fame when i fell in love with a, WELL I JUST DONT KNOW!

  9. Sorry to hear about your Grandma. It seems she is being way over protective about you. My Dad used to do that with me, when I was young. I honestly don't think that you can change the way she thinks, but as you get older and have more responsibilities then she'll loosen up.

Maybe try getting a job, becoming active in an after school program or more, when school starts. Start filling up your schedule with what seems to be important things to do, so you have a GOOD excuse for getting out of the house.

I think that this will allow you to show your Grandma that you are responsible, you are old enough to take care of yourself, and it will give you something to talk about with her without her exploding.

I hope she loosens up some and I hope I gave helpful advice. I'm a mother too, so I know where she is coming from and I know where you are coming from cause my dad was like that . Me and my dad have a better relationship now and you and your grandmother will too. Peace.
