My hammy sleeps near his water?

theres nothing wrong with him doing that. Its probably cooler for him or more comfortable. I wouldnt worry

If he doesn't seem to be in any pain, and he's getting around fine, I don't think it should be too important. If it's really hot where you love, he probably finds it nice and cool.

Maybe he's too fat, and can't get around as easy as he used to - it may just be more convenient for him.

does it ever wake up and get some water???You said it was chubby so maybe its lazy and does not want to walk very far to get there??

I used to breed dwarf hamsters & owned 19 of them. Trust me, alot of them do that. it's usually just because they get thirsty & don't want to get up to get to their water. Just like you might take a glass of water with you to bed so you don't have to get up & go to the kitchen.

Although, if your hamster is older, they often get diabetes & they begin to drink a LOT more. so much that you have to keep filling their water bottle cuz they empty it so fast.
