My holiday to Lebanon?

Question

I am going to Lebanon soon to meet with my friend but I am worried about the kind of attention I might get and if it will be safe for me. I dress conservatively but, being part Swedish, I am very fair and have long blond hair and blue eyes..

I am worried that i might get followed etc because I heard how the arabs love blond hair blue eyed women.

Would it be safer for me to wear a head scarf?

hi, i live there and i think that it can be safe but u still want to be careful. people will stare,  in the summer it can be hot here so wearing a head scarf will be annoying.

oh and usually , lebanese people don't like to be called "arabs"  and i think it would be better if u didn't adverise abt how good you think u look

you'll be fine...you don't need a scarf, it's not something that all women wear, the hijab is for religious women who went to the hajj and chose to wear the hijab, it's not simply a scarf that women put on...anyway, you will see when you get here that people in Lebanon are warm and caring and helpful.

And you are allowed to wear and eat anything you want.

We have never seen blondes here in Lebanon... you should be ready for the media... you're going to be on every TV .. in every newspaper... old women are gonna touch your hair wherever you go!

Why have u that preconcept about Lebanon?

Do you think that lebanese pple dont dress as everyone in the rest of the world?

Have you enough money as to go to the Maisons d' Haute Couture in Beirut, and buy the last fashion dresses??

Read something about Lebanon b4 going. You'll be surprised.

I never felt scared when travelling there. It's an amazing, wonderfu, incredible, friendly country and the pple is the most hospitable i have ever seen.

There are many many many blond and blue eyed Arabs in Lebanon! Are you kidding me?

I know because I'm Arabic!

They are as white as you are and you won't even believe you're in an Arab country Have fun!

i would like to tell you that this summer, everything is cool in Lebanon, and about the blue eyes and stuff, I'm Lebanese and blond and I'm not stalked by Arabian people, actually, now, the Arabian guys are now attracted to the brunettes, like Haifa Wehbe, as much as to blonds, so don't worry. and if some guy hits on you, don't feel afraid, coz the Lebanese men are known to do stuff like that between the Arabian population, you know, like the Italian guys are also known to hit on girls among the European populations, so don't give them that much attention. and no need for the scarf, as you won't be the only woman blond, we have many tourists coming from countries like yours, so you won't be alone

yes, you will be the only blond/blue eyed person in Lebanon and "the arabs" like you call them will follow you everywhere you go, and we simply refuse to guarantee the safety of any blond person walking our street.

I suggest you dye your hair black AND wear a head scarf.

I also suggest you educate yourself a little about Lebanon before embarking with all these assumptions and preconcieved ideas ( referring to your rather rude answer to my question)

Edit: don't listen to Kate above, she's one of these arabs who follow blonds too.

Wow lady, Lebanese people wont stalk you, they will lok at you because there arent a lot of blondes in there, but they will be friendly, we are friendly people and you will be safer than ever, but there are some troubles in the South but it is still safe.
