First iPod I've ever had...and it won't let me put songs on it. I got iTunes, I plug in the chord first like my friend said to do, then put the iPod in. I mean, it was my sister's first...could that have anything to do with it? My friend told me to "reset" it, but I dunno how to be honest. Any suggestions?

  1. make sure itunes is the latest version and OPEN.

reset the ipod (menu and centre key til it goes black) then connect it to computer as it lights up.

it should then connect to the itunes. BUT first check its paired to the itunes (if the ask to pair message appears say YES).

if it was your sisters then it is most likley paired to her computer.

The ipod is designed to work with and be the slave to itunes on the computer to which its paired.

If you do not pair a ipod to a computer you cannot alter its settings.

If you pair your ipod to a new computer it overwrites whats on it.

Simply dragging music onto an ipod does NOT make that music playable it then acts as hard disk. To make the music playable you MUST use itunes to sync with it as only itunes can put the music files in the correct file names (not the same as on the computer) in hidden folders and create the hidden indexes for them to be playable.

When you pair the ipod to a computer it erases ALL the previous library and tracks and replaces it with what the current computer want it to.

if you want to erase the ipod you select RESTORE form the ipod's tab in itunes then it re formats and re installs the ipods firmware resetting everything to default values and removing the lock (except for the touch which asks for the code to allow this)

the ipod needing a master player to sync with is NOT unique to apple Creative, Zune, Sony al have one of one sort or another.

    then restore the ipod.

  2. Well in itunes you press import the song

    then you press edit

    sync.

    remember to eject the ipod

    from the button that says

    Your IPOD [c:/] eject...

  3. When your in iTunes and are in the SYNC screen there is an option to "reset" the iPod. This will bring the iPod back to it's originall state like just purchased (doesn't always though)

Remember.. this will wipe out any music you have on that iPod

If your new to this .. you can't just plug your iPod to anyones PC and get their  music. Well you can by using a manual sync but as so as you sync with your iTune account you will only have the music that you have. Thought I would through that in.

Now if this is not your iTunes account and your trying to add music to it You may have to plug and unplug several times before it will let you. Because it's assuming your new and being added to this acct.

Remember the same will apply about syncing your music. I hope this was clear :-)

    Good Luck
